KEELBOAT TRAINING
Bay Sailing Academy is located in the Port of Port Elizabeth and sailed from the Algoa Bay Sailing Marina, using our yacht Tikalox a Muira 32ft sailing boat.
We offer the South African Sailing (SAS) approved courses and curriculum in order to qualify for Certificates of Competence which is enables the skipper to which enables you to sail in most parts of the world. The International Certificate of Competence (ICC) from SAS is accepted at most charter companies around the world. POPULAR SAILING COURSES
INTRODUCTION TO SAILING COURSE
This is a hands-on course with two days spent at sea learning to be at home on our yacht Nemesis. A great way to experience what sailing is all about while learning basic terminology and sail training.
COMPETENT CREW COURSE
The competent crew course is designed along the RYA Competent Crew syllabus to introduce beginners to sailing. This course covers practical sailing and introduces students to various theoretical aspects of sailing.
DAY SKIPPERS COURSE
The course covers all aspects of skippering a modern cruising yacht including boat handling, navigation, pilotage and seamanship skills. During the course, students will skipper a short passage under the watchful eye of their instructor to gain experience and confidence.
COASTAL SKIPPERS COURSE
This course is designed to help Day/Local Skippers upgrade to the SAS Coastal Skippers certificate. Aimed at the more experienced Day Skipper it will provide the student with the knowledge needed to complete more demanding coastal passages by day and night.

The Little Optimist Global Challenge – October 2020
Bay Sailing Academy enjoyed getting involved with The Little Optimist Global Challenge. The challenge was in aid of the Little Optimist Trust. The Little Optimist Trust was established by Greg Bertish and is registered as a Public Benefit Organisation and an NPO. After numerous request to get out on the water after lockdown from prospective new sailors Tony & Sigi started a new sailing school in Port Elizabeth. Thus Bay Sailing Academy was born. Both Tony & Sigi have a vast background in sailing locally and internationally over the past 30 years.
