The application must go through SAS for the Yacht-Master Offshore exam. The application form is available on the SAS web site.
SAS YACHT-MASTER OFFSHORE EXAM YOU REQUIRE:
- A SAS or CASA Coastal Skipper’s ticket
- A VHF Marine Radio Operator’s Licence (SRC)
- An eye test (details available on the SAS web site)
- A certificate of attendance at an approved first-aid course
- Minimum 2,500 nautical miles as an active member of crew on a sailing vessel at sea
- At least 48 night hours on watch
- Three overnight passages of at least 100 nautical miles as skipper
- A photocopy of your logbook which records your experience
THE REQUIRED SAS EXAM COMPONENTS:
- A short exam covering Colregs and IALA Buoyage (±½ hour)
- A chart work exam (±3 hours)
- An oral exam (±2 hours)
WHAT’S INCLUDED?
All the theory and notes that will be required to complete the SAS Yacht Master Offshore written and oral exams.
COURSE CONTENT
The Theory lectures include the following subjects:
Magnetism, Chart Work, Tides, GPS, Other Nav Instruments, Col Regs, IALA Buoyage, Knots & Ropework, MOB procedures, Basic Weather, Basic First Aid, Sail Trim, Handling a yacht in confined spaces, Anchoring, Basic Legal for boating.
